Profile of APS Chawla
Ajinder Pal Singh Chawla – A visionary behind MKC (Manjit Kaur Chawla) TRUST a charity registered in UK. An NRI from London, who lost his wife to breast cancer at an early age, has started Roko Cancer Campaign under the above charity. ROKO the Asian word which means STOP.
According to Mr APS Chawla, “Within many ethnic minorities, the family depends on the woman and if she can’t look after herself and get treatment, not being early diagnosed the whole family collapses, that’s what I suffered when my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer.”
Mr Chawla is working with Cherie Blair, Baroness Amos, Baroness Verma,Lord Karan Billimoria, Lord Dholokia, Keith Vaz, Geoff Hoon Sandra Howard, Sarah Kennedy and many other prominent dignitaries in UK to highlight the disease among ethnic minorities. He also heads many welfare organizations. He believes that it’s possible to live with cancer than die of ignorance, that he knows from his personal experience.
His Vision is to spread his campaign to each and every part of India, to the women who are mothers, wives and daughters to many.
The Pakistan India & UK Friendship Forum Award
MKC Trust received the award for Roko (Stop) cancer initiative and for charitable work in the awareness and early detection of cancer. The award was collected by the founder, Mr. APS Chawla.
British Community Honors Award
Mr. Chawla Chairman of Roko Cancer MKC Trust was awarded the Service to British Muslim Community Award at the House of Lords on Thursday 16th September.The Award was presented by the Rt. Honorable Dominic Grieves.
Mr. APS Chawla, chairman of Roko Cancer MKC Trust was recognised for his work with the asian community and MKC Trust was awarded the Indian Organisation of the year award 2009 at India International Foundation on the 21st September by the Indian High Commissioner of Britain.
