A supporting function was held at India International Centre, New Delhi where Smt Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister of Delhi, as the Chief Guest inaugurated the Mobile Unit. A delegation from Britain which included Mr Keith Vaz, M.P and Former Minister UK, Mr Jeremy Hughes, CEO Breakthrough Breast Cancer Charity, UK, Lord King, Member House of Lords, UK, Ms Penny Spears(Patron ROKO Cancer), UK along with Mr Mark Runacres, British Deputy High Commissioner in India, Sh Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, MP and Former Union Minister, Sh Tarlochan Singh, Chairman, National Commission Minorities, Sh Giridhar Gamang, MP and Former Chief Minister, Orissa, Ms Kirron Kher, Actor, Sh MS Gill, MP and Former Chief Election Commissioner also supported the cause.

 

Roko Cancer Campaign in India is led by Isha Bhandari, Director Operations, India with the mission of the trust to launch a number of Mobile Detection units in every state of the country. The launch of ROKO CANCER in India has given a ray of hope –an awareness that can save many lives. The next Mobile Breast Cancer Detection Unit is being launched in Delhi by June 07 to cover the semi urban and rural areas around Delhi and Haryana. Prior to the launch of the unit, Breast Cancer Awareness Camps are regularly being held in association with the ongoing STREE SHAKTI Programme of the Hon’ble Chief Minister Delhi, Smt Sheila Dikshit. STREE SHAKTI CAMPS have been held at Mandavali, Madanpur Khadar, Sangam Vihar, Uttam Nagar, Bhawana, Hari Nagar, Palam and Nizamuddin. As part of the Awareness Campaign various Presentations, Seminars etc are also being held at Delhi.Roko Cancer Awareness Films are being screened all over Delhi in various NGO camps.

 

At a Pravasi Indian (NRI) meet in Delhi, a brochure was launched by Sir Michael Arthur, KCMG (the British High Commissioner to India)….Several dignitaries including Mrs. Sheila Dikshit graced the occasion.

 

Roko Cancer Campaign in Delhi is also being supported by India Habitat’s, HABITAT LEARNING CENTRE. Programmes in the form of presentation, seminar, talk, lecture, screening of films on Breast Cancer is being held every month at the Habitat. A number of Awareness and Detection camps have also been conducted. The programme has been applauded by Mr Raj Liberhan, Director, India Habitat Centre. On 9th Oct,06 the WORLD BREAST CANCER DAY, an Awareness and Detection camp was held at the The Habitat Centre which was inaugurated by Hon’ble Dr. Kiran Walia, Chairperson, Delhi Commission for Women, MP. The camp was organized in association with Habitat Learning Centre (HLC), India Habitat Centre and was sponsored by Mr. Harcharan Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, HPL Group. About 40 NGO’s participated in the camp.

 

The Trust also participated in the Seminar on CANCER AWARENESS AND PREVENTION which was held at the Federation House organized by FICCI Ladies Organization (FLO) on 4th July 06. Ms. Mukta Nandini Jain, National President, FLO presided over the seminar. The Chief Guest for the Seminar was Ms. Ritu Kumar, Renowned Fashion Designer of India. The Eminent speaker was Dr. R A Badwe, Chief of Surgical Oncology & Clinical Research Secretariat, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumba. A Roko Cancer Campaign film on Breast Cancer Awareness-“REMEMBER ME” was screened in the seminar. The film received applauds from the audience. The Mission undertaken by Roko Cancer Campaign was appreciated by the FLO Ladies.

 

Roko Cancer Campaign was also appreciated by Ms Nirmala Fenn National President YWCA, and all the heads of the state, YWCA. A presentation was also held at YWCA by the trust on 22nd Sep 06.

 

On 11th Oct 06, an awareness and Detection Camp was held at TIHAR JAIL, New Delhi. This was the first time that a mobile unit was taken inside the Jail for a camp for women jail inmates.

 

From 5th Nov to 5th Dec ROKO CANCER TRUST organized 27 awareness and detection camps at various locations in Delhi. The camps were sponsored by DELHI SIKH GURDWARA MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE, New Delhi. The medical support was given by INDRAPRASTHA APOLLO HOSPITAL, New Delhi with the support of Mr Richard L Larison, MD Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, and Dr Anupam Sibal, DMS Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi. Overall medical advise to the camps was given by Dr Ramesh Sarin, Oncologist, Indraprastha Apollo Hospital.

 

On 7th Nov and 18th Nov 06, Free awareness and detection camps were held at APOLLO HOSPITAL, New Delhi and APOLLO HOSPITAL, Noida. The camp at Apollo Delhi was inaugurated by Mr. Richard L Larison, MD, Apollo Hospital and the camp at Noida was inaugurated by Dr. D. Sharma, C.O.O, Apollo Noida.

 

In one month 27 Free Mammography Detection camps were held in Delhi at Hari Nagar, Uttam Nagar, Sangam Vihar, Madanpur Khadar, Mandawali, Bhawana, India Habitat Centre, Tihar Jail, Dakshinpuri, Noida, Kalkaji, Lajpat Nagar, Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib, Andha Mughal, Sahibpura, Shivnagar, Pratapnagar, Tilak Nagar, Tagore Garden, Rajinder Nagar, Vikas Puri, Geeta Colony, Vivek Vihar, Nihal Vihar, Malviya Nagar, Shalimar Bagh, Chand Nagar, Vishnu Garden, FatehGarh, Vijay Nagar, Mukherjee Nagar.

 

On 7-9th Jan 07, Roko Cancer Trust participated in the PRAVASI BHARITYA DIVAS 07 organised by the CII, Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs Govt of India and Govt of NCT Delhi at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. A stall was also put up by the trust to spread the awareness on Breast Cancer. The stall was visited by Lord Karan Billimoria MP (UK) and Delegates from different countries. Breast Self Examination pamphlets were distributed to the Delegates. Films on Breast Cancer Awareness and Roko Cancer Campaign were also screened.

 

On 10 Jan 07, The Trust participated in the NRI DIVAS organised by NRI Institute at Hotel Grand Intercontinental, New Delhi.A stall was also put up by the trust to spread the awareness on Breast Cancer. An Award Ceremony was held at the NRI DIVAS where MKC Trust received the PINNACLE NRI AWARD-2006 from Hon’ble Mr Kapil Sibal for it’s services to the society in the field of Health Care.

 

On 10th and 11th Feb 07 the Trust participated in the ABILITIES MELA 2007 at the Blind Relief Association, New Delhi. A stall was put up by the trust. Films on the Roko Cancer Campaign were screened and Breast Self Examination Pamphlets (BSE) were distributed.

 

On 23rd Feb 07, An Awareness camp was organised by the Trust for YOUNG MEN’S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION, YMCA’S Department of Social and Human Development for it’s Women Group at Basti Vikas Kendra at Aradhak Nagar and Karpoori Thakur, New Delhi. BSE Pamphlets were distributed and films on Cancer awareness were screened.A talk was given by the Doctor on self examination and early detection.
